UTP Profile
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), which was established in 1997, has grown to be one of the most prominent private universities in Malaysia. UTP offers wide range of industry-relevant engineering and technology programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.


UTP has produced more than 10,000 graduates and currently has an enrolment over 6,000 undergraduates and 1,200 postgraduates from more than 50 countries around the world. UTP complements its engineering and technology programmes with quality education in the areas of management and the humanities, with the aim of producing well-rounded graduates exhibiting excellent leadership qualities and communication abilities.


UTP is ranked in the top 200 in the 2014 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking by subject for Chemical Engineering.  For the 2014 QS Asia University Rankings, UTP is the only private university in Malaysia to be ranked in the top 200.


Rated as Tier 5 (Excellent) University for the year 2011 Rating System for the Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (SETARA ’11) and achieved the Tier 5 for 2011 D-SETARA (Discipline-Based Rating System) in engineering, UTP continues to provide distinctive educational opportunities to its students.

UTP also places strong emphasis on Research and Development as it strives to achieve the status of an internationally renowned Research University.   The university conducts extensive research activities in collaboration with PETRONAS and other institutions and industries locally and abroad focusing on Enhanced Oil Recovery, Carbon Dioxide Management, Deepwater Technology, Nanotechnology, Green Technology, Biomedical Technology, Hybrid Energy Systems, Intelligent Cities and Sustainable Resources. This is evident when UTP was awarded a 5-star rating by Malaysian Research Assessment Instrument (MyRA) for its research, development and commercialisation efforts recently.
